Progress.

I went to Ithaca in 2007, and I took one of my favorite photos. Sue and I, and our friends Brian and Heather were hiking the Gorge trail, and I saw this series of falls that I thought would look pretty good, so I settled in for a bit with my tripod and ND filters to see what I could do. I ended up selling a number of prints of this at various art shows over the years:

So, of course, three years and four camera bodies later, I found myself back in the same area. Of course, I wanted to re-create one of the photos that I walk by every day in my house. I scouted the area, found the exact same spot, and I tried to frame everything as close as possible from memory. I think I did alright – except for that dang tree.

Of course, Photography isn’t about doing the same thing the same way every time, so I thought I’d try and find a different perspective. After a bit of climbing around (and almost losing a bunch of camera equipment in the drink), I found a different perspective. I used a different lens with a much wider aperture (F/1.4), and got quite a different look.  I look forward to going back in a few more years and trying this one again!

These are lovely. There’s something special about mountain streams, watefalls and nature in general. Your images have a nice, fine art quality about them.ReplyCancel
